Learning aim B: Investigate the impact of developments in computing technology

I believe that robotics has had a big development in computing technology as most things nowadays rely on tech and robots such as production lines, cars, computers and many more so here is a few of those in mush more detail.

Robots can perform tasks that a human won’t be able to do or is too dangerous
Examples of robots are:

Bomb squad

They respond to thousands of bomb related incidents each year.

  • They are controlled by an operator from a safe distance and now are controlled through wireless communications but once they had a cable at the back which was connected to a remote control
  • Use a series of cameras to see what’s going on
  • They have at least one arm-like manipulator as well as sensors

This robotic bomb squad is called Dragon runner which is being in the UK Army’s Urgent operational requirements and disposal to Afghanistan for bomb disposal support

Adds

  • Safer
  • Able to do dangerous jobs
  • Saved people’s lives
  • Made bomb squads jobs easier

Therefore as a result of these robots doing their part for the army this means people who are pat of the army are safer and won’t get hurt as the robot won’t feel pain and if it breaks they can just fix or make a stronger version of it. Which can but all of are life’s safe if we are in a bomb threat senorio

Farmer

It can do routine tasks more efficiently like surveying the land, driving a tractor, cutting, pruning and harvesting crops.

It works by having these three parts:

End effectors

  • Device found at the end of the robotic arm used for agricultural operation
  • Use for harvesting berrythining, spraying and baging

Gripper

  • Grasping device used for harvesting a certain crop what it’s programed to do
  • Two mechanical fingers that can hold blades

Manipulator

  • Allows the gripper and end effector to navigate through their environment
  • Consists of four-bar parallel links that maintain the grippers position and height

As an example here is a company called Harvest Automation who created the OmniVeyor HV-100 and has the task of spacing containerized plants and can be commonly found in wholesale nursery and greenhouse operations therefore when the plants are young they are placed in close proximity to one another and when they grow up the OmniVeyor HV-100 will pick them up and take them somewhere else in the compound

Adds

  • Can work for non stop with no break
  • Less errors
  • High quality products
  • Can easily work around obstacles like trees and rocks

Social impact of Robotics

The social impact of robots is a hard topic to write about but thanks to robots ic can save a lot of manual labor and it gathers useful information that can be used for business or everyday life to be exacte maybe have the robot have laser sensitive to know when something is wrong with a pattern and be able to record what’s going on and be able to find the right solution and contact the right workers to help the patient or even get the robot to do it itself

Ethical impact of Robotics

Robotics can cause a huge impact on are everyday lives with ethical robotics they can do what we do 24/7 with no breaks such as being workers or now with now many busince using robots over humans this as created a huge drop in jobs and many could be redundant as robots over rule as they need no break or pay which can save company huge profit loss, but with this it means that many people and family have to jobs or be able to create a income to feed them self or families.

Environment impact of Robotics

Robots can be used in many ways to help or gain more information of the environment around us such as scout the sea floor or maybe gather resources on the floor so that they can be investigated on the surface. The can lead alternate sources of resources that we are running low on which can allow us to mine part of the earth that would not necessarily harm the rest of it. The problem can be the construction and maintenance of robots can be very resource demanding which can become harmful to the environment as when we use up all the resources we have as well this can cause an economic instability. Overall this an be rendered irrelevant, however if the robots are used to gain access to resources previously unavailable to us.

Learning aim A: Understand the impact of developments in computing on an organisation

Implementing a new computer system can have on an organisation for Coca Cola

The risks related to implementing a new computer system

One of the risks of having a new computer system would be that you will have to train your employees on how to use the software which could take a lot of time and money to train each employee and as this is for Coca cola as this company is a multinational company and within a HQ their will be many employees that will need to be trained and some may have different knowledge in that system as so some may take longer to understand. There can also be a chance that some employees may have to go somewhere else to do the training which can lead to you losing members at the workplace and where their needs to be a human interaction may cause less products made to a standard efficiency. This can affect the employees and owners as this can take time and effort time train a huge amount of people.

Also by having a new system may lead to hackers being able to get into your system as its new to you therefore you are unaware if there are any backdoors or other ways other users can get into and steal your data. Or can be from a malicious threat inside the company so they will know that you may not know who to stop attacks which can completely break the server or can create blackmailing threats so that their data isn’t sold to another company so that they know what Coca cola’s future plans are. For this problem this can affect the stakeholders really badly as this maybe be their personal details that where taken therefore this may make them believe that Coca cola isn’t a say place for their details and may leave to join another company like Pepsi or something

The benefits related to implementing a new computer system

One of the main benefits is that no matter how you would chose to host your system you will be able to access it from anywhere in the world. Therefore you are able to offer permission to your trading partners both up and down supply chain. While embedding a modern system within the business this is a good way to reduce the administration workload and increase accuracy, as duplication of effort and transcription errors are dramatically reduced. Therefore this is really important for coca cola as this system can allow them to be able to communicate with other coca cola facilities all over the word as this allows a stronger communication is their stakeholders so that they feel welcome.

As nowadays smartphones and tablets have taken over from PCs as the most common data entry methods you can now access and deliver the data to other users from texts or email and be able to upload them to the cloud and share the work with other google accounts so that they can access them on their phone and tables from home or work due to that this can allow Coca cola to be able to monitor or do work from anywhere that has an internal connection source.

The impact on the organisation that developments in computing

One major technology that Coca cola implemented in 2017 is the coca cola freestyle  which is a machine and app that lets the user create their own tasty concoctions using flavours from over 100 Coca cola brands. With it being a drink dispenser as stated before with being able to make your drink the way you want to. This can be a huge success as it can bring in more customers as some may not like the coke drink but being able to make you own may catch their attention.

One of the main technology that coca cola is known for is back in 2009 the company disrupted the sustainable packaging landscape with the launch of PlantBottle as being the world’s first fully recyclable PET plastic bottle made partially from plants. As from introducing PlantBottle they have allow non-competitive companies to use the technology and brand in their products such as Heinz ketchup and Ford Fusion hybrid sedans. However the CEO James Quincey did announce of a twitter post to sell to their competitors therefore this can allow coke cola to make more money by selling theses bottles to other companies.

Have you ever gotten a Coke so cold it was almost frozen? Well thanks to a technology that coke invented back 2016 the arctic coke which is a machine that lets you choose which product you would like and make it into a slushy so you can have a treat on a nice hot day. This invention has been in coca-cola for 20 years back in 2016 with countless engineers having to tinker with cools meant to produce slushy Coke on consistent basis. Therefore this had a big impact for Coca cola as this allowed them to take a lead over their competitors that probleay never had this idea or got close to replicating what coke has done here.

Impact of emerging technologies such as the Internet of things

IoT in Manufacturing

When you are using Iot in manufacturing it’s called Smart manufacturing which improves the efficiency and productivity of manufacturing operations, which involves retrofitting sensors to existing manufacturing equipment often came with IoT sensors pre-installed. Also it networks a set of devices, robots and machines which can monitor each other, collect information from each other and analyse this information and react to provide smarter and best results. Which avoids interaction required by humans as sensors and connection via internet can gauge what is going on and read it.

Benefits

  • Improves efficiency
  • Increased productivity
  • performance

Therefore this can be very useful for coca cola facilities to be able to remotely monitor what is going on wherever and whenever so when something goes wrong they can come up with a quick simple solution before it becomes a big problem which can cause problems on the production line or the over all profit gained.

Impact of emerging technologies such as the Robotics

Coca cola employees could start working in technology enabled environments where the technology is use to improve processes and assist them doing their daily role, ranging from stow and pick thought to box sizing algorithms, software that determines the shortest, most efficient walking route from one place to another and the SLAM process so it can speed up the packing process and helps ensure accurate deliveries. Here is an example of what part of the SLAM process looks like.

Also with this they can go into the automation robotics as that is when use of various control systems for operating equipment automatically without human help at all therefore this achieves faster production lines creating the products 2x or even more faster then have 10 workers working on a assembly line, less workers= less money to pay them, creates products that a human wouldn’t be able to do or it will take to long form them to do.
